Exercising in the water isn’t anything new but adding a touch of Yoga and Zen to it, followed by amazing breathing can take your “cool” into the pool with SIREN YOGA!
According to Google, “The first documented practice of water aerobics was by Jack LaLane on his daily television show that promoted healthy living in the 1950s. It then became popular in the 70s and 80s as a form of low-impact exercise for athletes recovering from injury, seniors, and people looking for a new way to workout”.
Ancient Forms of Water Therapy
From Asia to Greece, as early as 2400 BC, immersion in water was viewed as a religious experience and a method of healing. By 1500 BC, water was used to reduce fevers and by 800 BC was used for healing in Bath, England. The Greeks and then the Romans believed that water had curative powers, using it to treat arthritic joints and other conditions. By 500 AD, the use of water and baths fell into disfavor. It wasn’t until the 1700s that water as medicine came back into use, with the development of hydrotherapy by German doctor Sigmund Hahn. Thanks to Sportsrec for this info.
Since a young child I have deep, intense and fantastic connection to the element Water. Any body of water! The ocean is where I find Joy, Happiness, a sense of Freedom and that I can actually “cleanse” my energy. Happy is that Siren is my real last name!

Brazilian Folklore
In the Brazilian Folklore, we have IARA (spells Yhara ). She is the Amazonian Mermaid that enchants fisherman, and the indigenous believe she has extraordinary powers… “The Mother of the Water Bodies”, a beautiful legend found here in this YouTube link: The Amazonian Mermaid (Iara) Brazilian Mythology – See U in History – YouTube
We also have Iemanja’, another legend of our Folklore, the Queen of the Oceans and Fertility, she protects the children. She has many different names, Yemaya, Janaina, and others. Beautiful video done by a Brazilian can be found here: THE STORY OF YEMAYA (YEMANJA) – The Orisha / Goddess of the Sea and Fertility – YouTube
Another excellent video (with music and some of our New Year’s traditions!) : Iemanjá: Goddess of the New Year and the Sea (Afro-Brazilian Paganism) – YouTube
